liblwp-online-perl software package provides module to check if there is Internet access, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install liblwp-online-perl
liblwp-online-perl is installed in your system.
Make ensure the liblwp-online-perl package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep liblwp-online-perl *
You will get with liblwp-online-perl package name, version, architecture and description in a table
